Description:

The Napa false indigo is sub-species of Amorpha californica (California indigobush) that is endemic to the Napa region, north of San Francisco Bay. A member of the pea family, A. californica var. napensis has vibrant indigo, pea-shaped blooms with 10 large stamen growing out of each bloom. It can be found on open slopes or mixed in with chaparral. Though rare, it has also been spotted in wetland regions as well. Due to its endemic status, it is currently labeled Imperiled as of 2001.

Based on an September 2020 extract of the California Plant Rescue Database, California Botanic Garden holds 1 accessions of Amorpha californica var. napensis in orthodox seed collection. There are as many as 4466 seeds of this species in their collection - although some may have been used for curation testing or sent to back up.
